Job Summary

The Business Development/Resource Mobilization Manager will be responsible for sourcing and tracking new funding opportunities for our client, an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) in the Eye Health sector.

As the only Resource Mobilization Specialist for Kenya, the role requires a proactive approach in driving local and international fundraising efforts, building key partnerships, and strategically aligning the organization with both local donor interests and global priorities. The incumbent will also focus on multilateral funding, institutional donor engagement, and corporate donor outreach efforts across Kenya, ensuring that the fundraising efforts meet and exceed set targets in a competitive landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy

Develop and execute a fundraising strategy tailored to the local context, focusing on bridging the gap between local fundraising efforts and global strategic imperatives.
Generate innovative fundraising ideas and craft compelling proposals and concept notes to secure funding.
Work closely with the Communications team to develop digital fundraising resources aimed at mobilizing funds through digital channels.
Conduct regular analysis of fundraising data and donor feedback to improve donor retention rates and enhance donor journeys.

Project Design and Grant Proposal Writing

Collaborate with the country program, product teams, and global BD team to develop high-quality, responsive, and competitive proposals.
Participate in shaping program designs to ensure they meet the expectations of donors while maintaining alignment with the organization’s goals.
Take full responsibility for proposal writing, especially for opportunities in Kenya, leading the development of strong concept notes and full proposals.
Sourcing and Tracking New Funding Opportunities

identify new funding opportunities, particularly those aligned with local priorities in the Eye Health sector.
Maintain a proactive approach in tracking and pursuing new leads, ensuring that no opportunity is missed.
Provide regular reports and updates to the Country Director and global BD team on ongoing opportunities and the status of donor engagement in Kenya.

Multilateral and Institutional Donor Engagement

Lead multilateral funding efforts, institutional donor engagement, and corporate donor outreach across Kenya.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with representatives from bilateral and multilateral donors, foundations, and implementing partners in the Eye Health sector in Kenya.
Collaborate with the global Business Development (BD) team to ensure that opportunities identified in Kenya are assessed for alignment with global priorities.
Represent the organization in forums such as the Kenya Donor Working Group and other gatherings of donors and implementing partners.
Actively create opportunities to build the organization’s visibility among key donors and stakeholders in Kenya, positioning the organization as a leader in Eye Health.

External Communications and Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure all external communications, marketing materials, and events are aligned with the resource mobilization goals in Kenya.
Play a critical role in creating external engagements that lead to new donor relationships, raising awareness of the organization’s work in Kenya.
Maintain regular communication with the Country Director and global BD team, updating them on progress made in donor engagement and resource mobilization efforts in Kenya.
Serve as the primary contact for all fundraising-related activities and provide regular status reports to management.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Development Studies, Economics, or related fields.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in donor networking, project design, and writing grant proposals and donor reports.
Exceptional fundraising and proposal writing skills, ability to work independently while aligning with global strategies, and a strong network of donor contacts in Kenya.
Experience working in the international development or non-profit/NGO sector is mandatory.
Experience in the eye health sector is highly advantageous.
