Research officer – Epidemiology One Health at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Support the design, development, and implementation of a national sero-prevalence and risk factor survey on six diseases namely: – Peste des petits ruminants (PPR), Sheep and Goat Pox (SGP), Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP), Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), Lumpy skin disease (LSD) and Rift Valley Fever (RVF) in cattle, sheep and/or goats in Kenya
Take lead in conducting a desk review on the six diseases named above and prepare a report.
Prepare research ethics applications, data sharing agreements, and progress reports.
Represent ILRI on a day-to-day level with project partners and take responsibility for maintaining good relations with study participants, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
Support analysis of samples and build capacity junior laboratory technicians.
Liaise regularly with government officials.
Disseminate research findings at scientific meetings and conferences.
Be willing to spend long days in the field.
Perform any other related duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
MSc degree program in epidemiology, One Health, Global Health or equivalent.
Minimum of three years’ experience in data analysis in field-based projects
Proficiency with appropriate analytic software and tools, especially R.
Excellent organizational, analytic, and interpretive skills.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Good interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills, especially to diverse audiences and targets.
