Job Description
What you will do
Deliver exceptional client service; maximize results and drive high performance from people while fostering collaboration across businesses and borders;
Participate in the development and maintenance of productive relationships with clients while striving to actively stay informed of market trends, performance drivers and emerging technical and industry developments;
Ensure preparation of proposals and engagement letters and client take on procedures are completed in a timely manner;
Manage the team to ensure client deliverables and deadlines are met;
Manage working capital and debtors for Customs and Excise engagements;
Liaise with the relevant Government ministries/departments on client engagements and other policy matters;
Business development aimed at growing the Customs and Excise portfolio/business;
Customs and Excise laws and regulations –Apply his/her knowledge on Customs and Excise law and practise to generate innovative solutions on projects/engagements;
Manage day to day client communication and building value adding client relationships;
Train and coach (classroom and on-job ) the junior staff;
Assist in developing knowledge of current tax matters across the Tax function;
Deliver client service according to relevant Deloitte standards, policies and ethical principles;
Develop and market new products;
Building and maintaining relationships with the client and the Kenya Revenue Authority;
Assist clients resolve KRA audits;
Manage and deliver a broad range of technical Customs and Excise advisory projects for clients of all sizes and across a range of industry sectors;
Influence clients, teams, and individuals positively, leading by example and establishing confident relationships;
Understand key objectives for clients and Deloitte; align people to objectives and set priorities and direction;
Budgets and profitability – Manage engagement budget through accurate budgeting, cost control and profitability management;
Prepare tax publications for clients and write articles on relevant tax matters; and
Use judgement to identify risk and apply global and local quality processes and risk procedures to each client.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Law or Economics from a recognised institution. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional accounting qualification (CPA/ACCA).
Technical expertise in Customs and Excise matters
Technical expertise in VAT will be an added advantage
At least six (6) years’ post-qualification experience as a Customs and Excise advisor/consultant with at least 1 year experience in middle level management.
Have at least three (3) years’ experience in a professional services firm client facing role.
Strong business acumen and commercial awareness.
Excellent client facing, relationship building and business development skills.
An ability to analyse information, identify issues and prioritise them.
Good knowledge of international and national taxation principles.
