Responsibilities
• Works with key partners and stakeholders and provides technical and administrative support to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the assigned project (components); monitors and analyzes specific aspects of project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
• Assists in defining and establishing synergies and cooperation in alignment with the SDGs, the MTS and the KM-Global Biodiversity Framework, connecting with other activities and initiatives in the assigned thematic fields, closely working with relevant thematic units and wider UNEP network; supporting the development of initiatives and project ideas, including targeted resource mobilization, targeting both horizontal and vertical funding.
• Carries out basic research on selected thematic aspects, operations and other activities, related to mountain ecosystems and climate change, including collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
• Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging development issues and trends in ecosystem degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change in tropical mountain ecosystems.
• Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with partners, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
• Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies and inputs to publications that relate to mountain ecosystems
• Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings/conferences, to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations and handling logistics.
• Undertakes outreach activities related to the global mountains programme, assigned project (components) and topics; participates in the development of training workshops, seminars; participates in and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
• Participates in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support and data collection.
• Coordinates activities related to budget funding (project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme and project budget).
• Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree, equivalent or higher) in a field relevant to mountains, ecosystem management, biodiversity conservation and restoration, climate change adaptation, including environmental sciences, sustainable development or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project management, including experience in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem-based adaptation/nature-based solutions is required. Experience in policy mainstreaming and advocacy including at national level, regional and global level is required. Working experience in sustainable mountain development is desirable Working experience with small grants set-up is desirable Experience in developing tools, methodologies, and guidance, preferably with a focus on nature aspects of climate change adaptation is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable (none if successful YPP or P-1 with a related degree).
