The position The position is in the Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics in the Faculty of Health Sciences under the MAP – AMR Project – Monitor and Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance in Kenya (MAP-AMR Kenya)” a five (5) year CDC project that is being conducted in the following hospitals: Kenyatta National Hospital, The Nairobi Hospital, MP Shah Hospital, Machakos Level 5 Hospital, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital and Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Location
The position will be based at the Kenyatta National Hospital, Machakos Level 5 Hospital, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital reporting to the IPC Coordinator in the duty station and Project Medical officer
Job Description
Conduct daily rounds in the target units identifying patients with features of sepsis and liaising with site clinical teams to ensure blood cultures are collected.
Follow up the site and project laboratory teams to ensure appropriate sample transportation, documentation and timely reporting of results.
Abstracting of patient data onto the MAP AMR database
Follow up patients with invasive Candida to outcome.
Ensure data is accurately collected and resolve any discrepancies with data team.
Work with the hospital and project clinical and IPC teams to appropriately respond to C.auris outbreak
Support the hospital IPC activities in the allocated duty station in collaboration with the site and project IPC teams.
Train and mentor clinical, auxiliary, housekeeping and environmental services staff on Infection Prevention and Control of antimicrobial resistant pathogens
Prepare and submit weekly updates, monthly, and quarterly reports.
Job specification
Applicant must have Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
He or She must have a Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and have a valid license.
Additional training in Infection prevention and control will be an added advantage.
He or She must have at least five (5) years working experience post qualification.
Experience in infection prevention and control in a large hospital
Demonstrate computer literacy skills.
Be a team player with excellent communication skills.
