Job Title: Drilling procurement assistant

Work Location: Naivasha, Kenya

Terms: I-year contract (Renewal based on performance).

Reports to: Procurement Manager.

About the Company

Our client one of the largest geothermal power plant in Kenya is looking for a procurement assistant to oversee procurement activities with the objective of optimizing supply and generating operations profit.

Roles and Responsibilities

 Support the mission, vision, and values of the OrPower4.

 Observe and follow plant environmental and operational rules, procedures, and guidelines.

 Strictly adhere to and enforce safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. as required by Ormat, Or power 4, Inc., and OSH.

 Perform supplier’s due diligence and introduce them in OMS upon approval.

 Evaluate all suppliers before purchasing is done to ensure items bought meet quality and safety standards as required by the company.

 Responsible for preparing and conducting contract and price negotiations for small to medium volumes.

 Responsible for determining procurement strategies to ensure the long-term, cost-effective supply of materials.

 Responsible for expediting purchases and supply sources to guarantee timely availability.

 Raises purchase orders in OMS for generally required items, stationery, and consumables for the smooth running of drilling activities always.

 Tracks order acknowledgment, prepares and communicates shortage and backlog reports, and provides visibility.

 Transmits and prioritizes approved purchase orders and supporting documents to suppliers.

 Reviews, updates, and maintains purchase orders until they are closed.

 Ensures orders adhere to supplier agreements and contracts.

 Review shipments documents before shipping, tracking, and fixing shipping errors.

 Expedite shipments delivery to drilling site.

 Apply and track shipments duty exemptions approvals and maintain accurate shipments records.

 Working with finance and accounts staff in resolving reception and invoice discrepancies.

 Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

 Evaluate complaints regarding the purchase orders and invoices received on shipments of equipment and supplies and take appropriate action.

 Maintain healthy group dynamic.

 Keep the management team informed of accomplishments & ongoing issues, participate in achieving resolutions to identified issues.

 Work with multinational engineering and construction teams.

 Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary.

Academic and Professional Qualifications 

 Minimum of a diploma in Supplies Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

 At least 2 years working experience in procurement in a busy manufacturing company or power plant.

 Background in material handling, purchasing, and stock control.

 Knowledge of computerized inventory and tracking systems.

 Ability to operate hand tools and mechanical equipment is desirable.

 High level of confidentiality, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal or no supervision.

 Ability to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations and quickly access all areas of the plant.

 Strong organizational and leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a problem-solving environment.

 Excellent interpersonal skills to work with a team, and verbal and written communication skills.

 Expertise and proficiency with basic Microsoft office computer software.

Physical requirements.

 Must be able to climb ladders, work off of elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways.

 Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.

 Job requires moderate standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting, and carrying.
